My So-Called Yoga Life

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched- they must be felt with the heart. ~ Helen Keller

    • Reflections on 2023

Posted at 3:26 pm by Lisa K, on December 31, 2023

When I think about the past year, it is a different sort of reflection this time. I usually like to look back at the status of my goals and decide on new ones but it’s not quite like that for 2023.

The larger overarching chaos in the world is always a weight for each of us to bear and it is hard to cultivate inner peace with this in mind. It is also important to be mindful of what we spend time on, to balance these thoughts and remain in a healthier state of mind. The energy we put out into our own environment, the way we treat others and ourselves has an effect.

With this in mind, I think it is important to continue to work on myself and the patterns that don’t serve me. I work to lessen the heaviness of the world chaos by doing things in my own smaller world to make a difference. Then I can make space for my personal work. It is easy to let myself believe that I am unworthy. But deep within, I know that isn’t true. Nothing is perfect, but taking the time to try, to continue to make space for the effort, to work to express things better, to chip away at the ice, to believe in others and myself – it isn’t always easy but it is worth the effort. Even if it is 2 steps forward and 1 step back or 1 step forward and 2 steps back, it will still create a difference in awareness, in experience and ultimately in growth.  For me, that is more than enough.

In 2024, the journey will continue. It is like looking down a long hall with each thought a picture hanging on the wall. The ones I will stop to look at and get lost within, I will endeavor to be more mindful about. When opportunities present themselves to be bold and step out, I will do my best to take them.

I want to always be a light for my children and my loved ones. To hold them, to support them, inspire them and motivate them to follow their own curious paths in love and awareness. To teach my children not only what the world can give but also what they can give back.

May 2024 bring more love, compassion, patience, understanding and empathy for all.
